A stirring call to Christian families and churches to be a people who care for orphans, not just in word, but in deed.
The gospel of Jesus Christ-the good news that through Jesus we have been adopted as sons and daughters into God's family-means that Christians ought to be at the forefront of the adoption of orphans in North America and around the world.
Russell D. Moore does not shy away from this call in Adopted for Life, a popular-level, practical manifesto for Christians to adopt children and to help equip other Christian families to do the same. He shows that adoption is not just about couples who want children-or who want more children. It is about an entire culture within evangelicalism, a culture that sees adoption as part of the Great Commission mandate and as a sign of the gospel itself.
Moore, who adopted two boys from Russia and has spoken widely on the subject, writes for couples considering adoption, families who have adopted children, and pastors who wish to encourage adoption.

Review
"We often forget that the Christian walk is not merely about getting us into heaven, but it is also about getting heaven into us. This is why our Lord gave us the Beatitudes, the Sermon on the Mount, and the parable of the Good Samaritan. Thus, it is no surprise that the apostle James offers this injunction to the Early Church: 'Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world' (James 1:27, kjv). In this wonderful monograph, Adopted for Life, Russell Moore offers to the Christian world a compelling account of these and other lessons of Scripture so that our communities of faith may put them into practice and become more like that 'shining city on a hill' of which our Lord spoke."
Francis J. Beckwith, Professor of Philosophy and Church-State Studies, Baylor University; author of Defending Life: A Moral and Legal Case Against Abortion Choice
"Russell Moore reminds us in his powerful book Adopted for Life that the true Christian family reaches far beyond the biological. The poignant tale of the adoption of two Russian orphans by him and his wife Maria grows into a metaphor of Christian salvation. This book offers both practical advice and courage to every couple considering adoption. For all readers, it shows how the act of adoption actually reveals core truths about the gospel of Christ."

Absolute MUST read for EVERYONE!
By Amazon Customer
This is a must read for all Christians, anyone even thinking about adoption or anyone who knows someone who is adopting. The main theme is how ALL Christians are called to support adoption in one way or another and how adoption as the gospel and adoption as a mission are entwined and can't be separated as we have all been adopted by God. This is important for all Christians to understand and the author gives some great creative ways for Christians to support adoption, that do not necessarily involve you actually adopting a child yourself. Not all Christians are called to bring a child into their home, but are called to support in one way or another. Additionally, this author did an amazing job at explaining my personal passion for adoption and If you also have a passion for adoption you will greatly enjoy reading this book because the author also feels this passion, though he did not necessarily always feel this way. This book is for people thinking about adoption but also for those who know someone who has adopted. It's a little bit of education on what NOT to say to someone adopting or especially in front of the kids. It's some sensitivity training too. It is amazing the comments people will make when you begin to talk about adoption. All people mean well I think, but they just don't get it and their comments can be quite frustrating, and sometimes even hurtful and just plain ignorant and incorrect. The author addresses all of this, and even acknowledges that at one time he was one who made those same comments and wrong he now relatives he was after adopting himself. He discusses many misconceptions. I want everyone I know to read this so they can understand my family, new daughter and future children better(as well as other families who adopt and their children) and to know what to say and what not to say and how to act and how not to act. Additionally, I pray this book would get some people thinking about what their role in adoption might look like. Not everyone is called to bring a child into their home but we are all called to support in some way. Maybe prayer, maybe pro bono services, or financial support, or other types of support. I highly recommend you read this book and see what your role might look like.

A Must Read on the Topic of Adoption
By Alexander R. Tandon
I first heard of Russell Moore's "Adopted for Life" several years ago while I was in seminary and have been interested in reading it since reading David Platt's "Radical" around the same time; however, I did not get around to reading it until my wife and I made the decision to pursue international adoption a few months ago. Soon after making this decision, I suggested that we make this our first read on the topic of adoption. As a result, I can't offer much by way of comparison to other books on the topic, but that doesn't prevent me from sharing my impressions of this work.
"Adopted for Life" is a gift to anyone who was adopted (helpfully described as a "Past-Tense Verb" in chapter 8), to anyone who has, is, or is considering adopting, as well as to anyone who wants to learn more about adoption (whether you're interested or have friends/family who are). Moore's approach to the topic is biographical (he and his wife adopted two children from Russia) and pastoral (both in terms of offering helpful advice and in showing how adoption reflects a greater reality).
"Adopted for Life" is real. Moore addresses the highs and lows of adoption. He offers practical wisdom that we were pleasantly surprised to discover meshed quite well with much of what our case worker taught us in our recent home study. It is clear that Moore is not only personally experienced, but that he did his homework for this project. He addresses challenging questions that couples pursuing will face head on (e.g., Chapter 4, "Don't You Want Your Own Kids?"). He also offers a wonderful perspective on the seemingly never-ending process of paperwork and the issues that accompany racial and health concerns.
"Adopted for Life" is a must read. Whether you're a Christian or not, Moore's counsel is practical and sound. If you're a Christian, however, you should take the time to read this book, regardless of whether you're personally interested in adoption. You may find that this book encourages you to pursue adoption or it may be the encouragement you need to get involved in other practical ways.
(As a side note, my wife and I listened to the audio version of this book together while following along in our eBooks. I personally loved listening to this book because it is narrated by Moore himself, which added to the authenticity of the emotion that was undoubtedly poured into this book. Therefore, I want to recommend both the book and its audio version!)

Good Read
By E. C.
This book was a bit different than I expected. The adoption of his sons seemed like a small part of the book. The call to churches as a group and not just to individuals was really excellent and gave me much to think about. I wish he had explored more practical steps to take, maybe even ideas of programs that could be instituted in church to help individuals support adoption and/or become adoptive parents themselves, rather than the few paragraphs that are there.
Over-all, I thought this was an informative and interesting read, but I felt like it also lacked a lot of meat that I desired. I wanted it to be less about how we are adopted through Christ (which seems like basic knowledge and like it could be covered in one chapter), and more about practical steps to take to truly focus people's hearts and minds, and churches as a whole, towards supporting and participating in adoption.
